Local Businesses Complete BITES Programme
Local companies have taken steps to boost their sustainability and competitiveness after taking part in a business programme, funded by the Belfast City Council.
Representatives from businesses in the city and the Carrickfergus, Lisburn and Newtownabbey council areas have completed the BITES (Business Improvements Through Environmental Solutions) programme which is part financed by the councils, Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland.
The programme looked at environmental management and resource efficiency in the workplace with participants learning how to identify savings in transport, energy, water and waste costs. As well as business improvement workshops and one-to-one mentoring, the course was complemented with good practice site visits to IKEA, ISL Waste Management, USEL and Wastebeater.
