Irish routes buck P&O passenger figures

P&O has reported an increase in passenger and vehicle numbers on its Irish Sea routes.

The leading ferry operator showed a 15% rise in vehicle numbers and a 4% increase in passengers on that route.

This helped offset falling passenger numbers on its key Dover to Calais route which dropped 11% in the three months to June compared with the same period last year.

Overall the company reported a fall in passenger numbers.

Meanwhile onboard spending by passengers continued to rise during the last three months.
