Shortly before 8.30pm on Sunday night (30 November), a gang of men forced their way into the victim's home on the Dunnyboe Road, Co Tyrone.

The man, who is in his 70s, was attacked by the group and he received cuts to his face and an injury to his hand.

It is understood the men stole a number of items from the property, including a sum of cash. They fled the scene in a dark-coloured Seat car.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "At around 8.25pm it was reported that a number of men had forced their way in to the home of an elderly man and assaulted him. The man, aged in his 70s, suffered cuts to his face and an injury to his hand as a result of the incident.

"Shortly before 9.50pm it was reported that two men were seen acting suspiciously in a blue coloured Seat Toledo car, VRM CKZ 8880 in a car park in the Victoria Court area of Londonderry.

"At 12.20am Police received a report that the Seat Toledo car was on fire in Daisyfield Park off the Letterkenny Road in Londonderry. The car was completely destroyed as a result."
