Four Arrests Follow Assault Rifle Discovery

Police have arrested four men after an assault rifle and ammunition were discovered in a vehicle in Belfast.

The men were detained and have been taken to Antrim police station for questioning. The arrests have been made in relation to dissident republican activity.

A 29-year-old man was arrested when police stopped his vehicle on the Grosvenor Road on Thursday. A subsequent security operation took place in the area.

In a follow up police operation, officers arrested three men, aged 27, 29 and 46, in the Springfield Road area of west Belfast.

Roads around the Westlink were closed for a time on Thursday evening as army bomb experts examined the vehicle, but have since reopened.
