'Register, Or Face Fine', Landlords Told
Landlords in Northern Ireland have been warned they must register by 25 February 2015 or face a fine of up to £2,500.
Social Development Minister Mervyn Storey has launched a new phase of advertising to highlight the Landlord Registration Scheme requirements.
He said: "The private rented sector provides an important housing option for many people across Northern Ireland. Tenants should expect to be provided with good quality and well managed accommodation for the rent they pay to their landlord. The Landlord Registration Scheme has been introduced to promote good landlord practice and improve standards for those renting privately.
"The scheme is progressing well with over 9,000 landlords registered to date who have provided details of 22,000 private tenancies. I am reminding all landlords that they must register or face a fine."
Outdoor, TV and online advertising will be running over the next few weeks and into the New Year, up to the registration deadline date of 25 February 2015.
