Woman Punched During Hijacking
Police are investigating a hijacking in the Norglen Parade area of Belfast on Monday 17 November.
It was reported that at about 04:00 a 59-year-old woman was removing items from a silver Vauxhall Astra when she was approached by an unknown male.
The attacker spoke to the woman and then punched her in the face, before taking her car keys. He made off in the vehicle in the direction of the Springfield Road.
The stolen Astra was spotted by police on Stockmans Lane a short time later and pursued into Brittons Parade, where it reversed into the police vehicle a number of times before making off.
The car was then located in the Whiterock area and was recovered for examination.
Police have asked anyone with any information to call 101. The independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Woman Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
A woman has been convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits she was not entitled to.
62-year-old Elizabeth Close of Drumbanagher Wall, Newry, County Down, claimed Income Support totaling £13,719 while failing to declare employment. She was fined £250 and ordered to pay an offenders levy of £15.
She is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
Cash And Cary Van Hijacked
Detectives have launched an investigation into the hijacking and robbery of a cash and carry van in west Belfast.
The incident occurred at about 14:00 yesterday afternoon when it was reported that three men stepped in front of a white Transit on Whiterock Road, forcing it to stop.
The men then forced a male passenger into the rear of the van and ordered the driver to drive to Falls Park. The men then removed cash from the vehicle and made off.
Soldiers' Memorial Defaced
A memorial to three Scottish soldiers who were murdered by the IRA during the Troubles has been defaced.
The memorial on White Brae in the Ligoniel Road was attacked with paint some time on Monday afternoon before 15:00. It is the latest in a string of attacks on the same memorial.
Police have appealed for information.

Man arrested after woman dies in collision
A 61-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident in County Down. A woman, believed to be in her 50s, was hit by a vehicle on the Comber Road in Newtownards at about 9.45pm last night. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
