Cyclist Killed In A1 Road Accident
A cyclist has died after his bike was hit by a lorry on the A1 near Sprucefield just outside the village of Hillsborough in County Down.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning at about 06:50 in the Lisburn-bound lane of the carriageway. The lane has been closed between Dromore and Hillsborough.
The man, thought to be in his mid-30s, was taken to hospital in Belfast where he was described as being in a critical condition, but has since died.
PSNI Area Commander for Lisburn Chief Inspector John Wilson said: "Wet roads and bad weather obviously make driving more difficult and motorists should drive according to the road conditions to stay safe. Slow down and maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front. It takes longer to stop on a wet road than a dry road so extra care is needed.
"Police investigating this serious RTC are also appealing for witnesses and would ask for anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact them on 101."
