Two Dungannon, County Tyrone companies have been found guilty and fined £20,000 and £9,000 respectively for waste offences at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court.

Poultry Company Guilty Of Pollution

A poultry company from County Fermanagh has pleaded guilty and been fined £2,000 at Enniskillen Magistrates' Court yesterday for making a polluting discharge to a waterway.

Western Brand Poultry Products of Screevagh, Lisnaskea, also had to pay £28 court costs and £15 Offenders Levy, as well as £3,949.70 fish restocking costs.

The charges followed an investigation on 10 July 2013 by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) into a fish kill in the Moorlough River near Lisnskea. Tyrone Farmer Pleads Guilty To Polluting Waterway

A County Tyrone farmer has pleaded guilty and was fined £1,000 at Dungannon Magistrates' Court for making a polluting discharge to a waterway.

On 7 February 2014 the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) inspected a waterway near Coagh, and found grey fungus in the bed of the waterway. The source was traced to farm premises owned by Mr Brian Harkness, Battery Road, Coagh, where slurry was found to be escaping from a shed and making its way to the waterway.

A sample taken confirmed that the discharge contained poisonous, noxious or polluting matter, which was potentially harmful to fish life in the receiving waterway.
