Church 'IRA' Graffiti Condemned
There has been widespread political condemnation of IRA graffiti that was daubed on a Presbyterian church in Antrim ahead of Sunday's Remembrance service.
The slogan 'Free Colin Duffy IRA' was sprayed onto the wall of Greystone Presbyterian Church on the Greystone Road.
DUP South Antrim MP William McCrea said: "This is an utterly appalling action which is designed to cause maximum offence and upset in the community. For this to be daubed on the church on Remembrance Sunday is another indication of the sinister motive. Those behind this only want to heighten tension and cause maximum division. I trust those responsible will be apprehended and certainly if anyone can help the police with their inquiries they should come forward."
Alliance Antrim Councillor Neil Kelly said: "I am disgusted by this attack on the Presbyterian church. There can be no justification for this incident. It is appalling that there are still those who would seek to cause such division in our society.
"I welcome the widespread condemnation of this graffiti from all sides and the support that has been shown for the Greystone Presbyterian Church congregation. This is the message that represents the local community, not those who have daubed a slogan on the side of this church.
"Those responsible for this graffiti must be apprehended by the Police, so I would urge anybody with any information to come forward and help the PSNI in their investigations."
