Paying For Sex Will Only Be A Crime In Northern Ireland
A proposal to make paying for sex a crime has been defeated in Westminster. It has been reported that the ruling will not affect the implementation of the law in Northern Ireland. However, last month, the Northern Ireland Assembly voted through a similar clause and is now set to become law in 2015.
Laws On Street Trading To Change
Mervyn Storey, Social Development Minister, has said changes to street trading are to change.
Following a joint consultation with the UK Government as well as the devolved administrations in Scotland and Wales, Minister Storey has now published his response.
He has said he plans to make changes to the application procedures for street trading licences, which are granted by local councils; and the type of street trading allowed.
He explained: "Under our street trading law pedlars can only trade door to door. The new changes will mean this restriction will be removed, enabling pedlars to trade beyond house to house selling. However, a new power will allow councils to designate areas as unsuitable for pedlars to carry out trading."
Changes to the Pedlars Acts will also include the introduction of a new police character check and the removal of the residency requirement. The changes are needed to bring the law in NI into line with the European Services Directive, which is designed to make it easier for traders to do business anywhere within the European Union.
Minister Storey added that he expects the new regulations to come into force from 2015.
Appeal Launched Following Multi-Vehicle Crash
An investigation has been launched in relation to a multi-vehicle crash which occurred earlier this week.
On Monday (3 November), four vehicles were involved in the accident on the M2.
The collision happened close to the Templepatrick onslip on the M2 Southbound at around 7.15pm. Two people had to be taken to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
Police have said they are appealing for anyone who witnessed a dark coloured car that may have been involved in the collision.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Ballymena Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.
