NI Construction Firms Win Hull Contract

Graham and Lagan Construction have jointly won a £100 million contract to redevelop dock land in Hull for use as a wind turbine factory.

It is understood the work will involve the two Northern Irish firms working together to reclaim 7.5 hectares of the Humber river, creating a new quay.

The Green Port Hull will require earthworks, dredging berths and building internal access roads and service networks.

It is understood as soon as Graham and Lagan Construction complete their work, German firm Siemens will build a wind turbine facilities on the site.

NI Builders Hardest Hit In UK
Northern Ireland builders are being hit much harder by the slowdown in the property market compared to their UK counterparts, the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has said. In a report published yesterday, the FMB revealed that NI builders are reporting a workload of 30% less than the UK average.

HSENI prosecute construction firms
The Health and Safety Executive of Northern Ireland (HSENI) has successfully prosecuted two firms for breaches of health and safety procedures. The first case, held at Belfast Magistrates Court last month, involved the prosecution of McCombe Brothers of Antrim.
