Justice Minister Backs EU Calls For Govt To Fund Troubles Investigations
The European Union has told the British government that it cannot use budget cuts as an excuse for not fully funding investigations into killings during the Troubles carried out by soldiers and police.
European human rights commissioner Nils Muiznieks accused the government of breaching the European Convention of Human Rights by not conducting "effective, independent and reasonably prompt investigations".
Justice Minister David Ford has backed the calls, saying the UK government has a moral and financial obligation to deal with the past.
