'Amber' Weather Warning For NI
A 'yellow' weather warning for Northern Ireland has been upgraded to 'amber' in anticipation of torrential rainfall, the UK Met Office has said.
Bands of rain are expected to move east across Northern Ireland during Thursday and early Friday.
Some of the rain will be heavy, notably during Thursday afternoon and also for the first part of Friday in the east.
The Met Office said the public should be prepared for the risk of localised flooding, with the likelihood greatest in the east of Northern Ireland.
The initial 'yellow' warning has now been expanded, while an 'amber' area is now included in the east.
The Chief Forecaster said: "An active frontal system will move east across Northern Ireland during Thursday and early Friday morning. Rainfall totals will be around 20-40 mm widely, and within the Amber area in the east, 40-60 mm with peaks in excess of 80 mm over the hills. This will also include some short spells of heavy rain which could produce 20 mm within a few hours at low levels too, notably later Thursday afternoon and again early Friday morning."
The warning is valid from 10:30 this morning until 08:00 on Friday.

A total of 136 candidates are competing across 18 constituencies. 127 of the candidates represent 11 total political parties, with the other 9 standing as independents. PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher has welcomed Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, to the Northern Ireland Police College, Garnerville, on Monday 19 August. The Chief Constable and Sir Keir met a number of officers injured during recent disorder in Belfast and L'Derry.
