Flood of fire hydrant ‘vandalism’ threatens water supplies
The Water Service in Northern Ireland has warned that vandals are seriously threatening water supplies in many parts of Belfast by the widespread abuse of fire hydrants.
The unauthorised opening of the hydrants is causing loss of water pressure and may lead to an interruption of supplies in some areas. There is a serious risk that water supplied for fire fighting purposes is also in jeopardy and that localised flooding may ensue.
In advising the public of the dangers associated with the abuse of Fire Hydrants, the Water Service is actively seeking help from the community in ensuring that hydrants remain closed and that the abuse is brought to an immediate stop.
Members of the public who wish to report any misuse of hydrants are urged to contact the Waterline on tel. 08457 440088.

PSNI Welcomes Sentencing Of Man For 'Harrowing' Domestic Assault
The PSNI has welcomed the sentencing of a man at Laganside Crown Court in connection with a domestic assault in North Belfast last year. 32-year-old Jordan Spence was sentenced to 40 months for assault occasioning actual bodily harm, 12 months for false imprisonment, 12 months for criminal damage and 12 months for threats to kill.

DUP Welcomes Derogation On NI Dental Amalgam Supplies
DUP Leader, Gavin Robinson MP, has welcomed the agreement between the United Kingdom and the European Union to allow a derogation on dental amalgam supplies for Northern Ireland. The party leader has said that from the earliest days of government, the DUP have been raising NI's access to dental amalgam supplies "as a matter of urgency".
