Mayor of Derry pledges support for Police College

Mayor of Derry, Shaun Gallagher has reiterated his support for efforts to locate the Police College in the city as part of his ongoing commitment to economic regeneration and job creation efforts.

While the process of selecting interested parties for the Police College remains to be completed and is still in the early stages, councillor Gallagher said it was his understanding "that due to the commercial and therefore confidential nature of the process that a comprehensive overview of interested bidders will become clearer by mid-August at the earliest".

He added: “The potential location of the Police College in the city presents an immediate opportunity to address the economic challenges that have faced the region over recent months and I remain committed to making the office of Mayor available to assist all efforts that improve the economic prospects and enhance the job creation opportunities for the city and region."

The Mayor said that in the meantime, he felt it important to express support for those bidders who have expressed an interest in bringing the police college to the city.
