Two NI children die in Swedish road accident

Two children from Northern Ireland have died in a road traffic accident in Sweden.

The youngsters who died were with their parents, two sisters and brother when the people carrier they were travelling in collided with a truck.

The accident happened close to the town of Oesmo, just south of the capital Stockholm at around 1pm yesterday.

One of the victims died at the scene of the crash while the other died later in hospital.

Police believe that one of the tyres on the truck exploded, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The family's other three children are being treated in hospital for their injuries, one of whom is in a serious condition.

The mother, meanwhile, is said to be serious but stable condition while the father is unhurt.

Witnesses described hearing what sounded like an explosion when the lorry's tyre blew out.
