PCS Union Stages Strike Over Pay
The Public and Commercial Services Union, of which there are about 2,000 Northern Ireland members, is staging a 24-hour strike today over pay.
Thousands of PCS members in the civil service and related areas are on strike from early this morning.
The PCS says strike action is "a last resort" but that its members faced a two year pay freeze in 2010 and have since been hit with a 1% cap on public sector workers, despite price increases of 16% since 2010.
The PCS said it had submitted a national pay claim asking for 5% or £1,200 for all civil service and related staff.
The Northern Ireland members of the PCS Union have organised a 'March For Fair Pay', due to take place this Saturday 18 October, from 12:00 at Writer's Square in Belfast.
