Ericsson Signs €80m Contract With eircom
Fine Gael TD for Longford Westmeath, Gabrielle McFadden, has welcomed the announcement by Ericsson that they have signed an €80 million contract with eircom.
The new arrangement makes Ericsson the sole vendor for eircom’s radio access solutions for 4G LTE (Long-Term Evolution), 3G and 2G mobile technologies across Ireland.
"This has been a really good news week for employment in this country, and in particular Athlone. Ericsson's €80 million contract with eircom is a great sign for their future commitment to Athlone. I was very happy to arrange for the Minister for Jobs Enterprise and Employment, Richard Bruton, to be present in Athlone today for this announcement.
"Ericsson are a wonderful employer in Athlone. I was delighted to visit their premises recently where I met with management and staff and saw first-hand the excellent highly skilled work carried out there.
"Today's announcement follows the good news from Ericsson a few months ago where they announced 120 new ICT jobs, supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland. There is no doubt about Ericsson’s commitment to Ireland and Athlone into the future.
"Companies like Ericsson bring valuable high skilled jobs to this country. Equally, Ireland has a lot to offer to such companies, with our position as a gateway to both continental Europe and the US, our educated and flexible workforce and our excellent transport links through the country."
