Audio-Visual Systems Announced For Belfast Metros

Plans are being drawn up to introduce audio-visual systems on Belfast's Metro buses in 2015, according to the Department for Regional Development.

The installation, due to be phased in from early next year, will involve all Metro buses fitted with audio visual systems including on board audio announcements and visual displays advising passengers of their next stop.

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy said: "I am pleased to confirm that plans are being drawn up by my Department for the start of the installation of audio visual systems on the Metro Bus Network in Belfast. It is particularly pleasing to be able to make this announcement to coincide with Guide Dogs Week, which has this proposal as its core theme.

"The new systems will include audio announcements and visual displays both on board Metro buses and at key bus stops. This will not only lead to an improved passenger experience for people with visual impairments but it will also have a range of benefits for other users such as the increasing number of tourists that are using our public transport system."
