Former UUP MLA George Savage Dies, Aged 72

Former UUP MLA George Savage has died, aged 72.

The former Upper Bann MLA and Mayor of Craigavion died following an illness.

Former UUP party leader Lord Empey said: "George was one of the most respected Ulster Unionist Party representatives in the Assembly, a two term MLA, a long serving member of Craigavon Borough Council, and a former Mayor of the Borough. George was a solid Ulsterman who stood loyal throughout the troubles.

"The respect with which George was held has been obvious in recent weeks with the amount of people who visited George's family home. He was one of our most long standing members. We will remember him for his very dedicated work over the years."
