PSNI Launch Campaign To Help Identify Cannabis Factories
The PSNI uncovered one hundred and thirty cannabis factories between April 2013 and March 2014, marking a 44% increase compared to 2012-13.
Police have released the figures as part of a campaign to tell people how to spot signs of drug factories.
The initiative will see police hand out 'scratch and sniff' cards to the public, highlighting signs to look out for. It also includes a scratch off section which contains the smell of a cannabis plant.
Speaking about the initiative, Assistant Chief Constable Drew Harris said: "More than two cannabis factories are being uncovered every week in Northern Ireland. They are illegal and they are dangerous. The money generated by them runs into millions of pounds. That’s money going into the pockets of organised criminals - used to fund even more criminal activity.
"Over the coming weeks officers across Northern Ireland will be distributing ‘scratch and sniff’ cards to the public so that they will be able to recognise the signs and smells of cannabis factories in their local communities. We know that people may not realise that the empty, run down house or flat on their street with people coming and going may actually be a cannabis factory. It's not just the stereotype of the remote rural dwelling or disused industrial unit."

400 cannabis plants have been seized during a police operation in west Belfast at the weekend. The plants were seized on Sunday after officers raided the cannabis factory in the Broadway area as part of a planned search.

Man Charged Over £16,000 Cannabis Find
A 22-year-old man has been charged after £16,000 worth of cannabis plants were seized in L'Derry. The discovery was made after police searched a house in the Waterside area on Friday, 22 September. The suspect has been accused of growing cannabis, possession of a Class B drug and intent to supply.

Two Cannabis Factories Uncovered In Dunmurry
Two separate cannabis factories have been uncovered in Dunmurry in the last 24 hours, it has been reported. According to police, reports of suspicious activity led to the discovery of one of the factories at a flat in the Rowan Drive area, containing plants and herbal cannabis worth an estimated £115,000.
