George Best Foundation To Be Wound Up
The George Best Foundation is to be wound up, a statement from Barbara McNarry, George Best's sister, has confirmed.
The statement said that the foundation would come to an end after eight years due to Mrs McNarry's ill health and "a desire to have more time in retirement".
Four of the foundations six trustees resigned earlier this year and had not been replaced.
It is understood the trustees left the charity at the same time as a firm of chartered accountants were investigating how it was run.
It is believed as soon as the charity's creditors have been paid, it is expected there could be a substantial surplus, which the foundation has said will be "transferred to and managed by another independent charity and used to support projects aimed at upholding the legacy of George Best".
