Passenger injured during plane evacuation

A passenger was slightly injured after a plane was evacuated shortly before take-off at Belfast City Airport on Friday morning.

The alert begin shortly before 9am on Friday morning when the pilot noticed smoke in the aircraft.

Fifty-four passengers where immediately evacuated from the Manchester bound British Airways aircraft by means of the plane's emergency chutes.

Several airport tenders and 10 fire engines were called as a precautionary measure.

Passengers were eventually moved to a number of other outgoing flights and will travel throughout the day.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the incident.

Belfast-bound plane forced to make emergency landing
A British Airways passenger plane bound for Belfast was forced to make an emergency landing at a Scottish airport last night. The plane, which was flying from Glasgow International to Belfast City Airport, was forced to land at Prestwick airport in Ayrshire just after 6pm.

Two killed in plane crash
Two people have been killed and seven injured, three critically, after a plane crashed while trying to land in Co Galway. The dead men were named as pilot Matt Masterson from County Dublin and Paul McNamee from Loughrea in County Galway.

Plane Crash Body To Arrive Home
The body of the Londonderry man killed in Sunday's plane crash in Phuket will arrive home this week. Aaron Toland's body will be flown into Dublin airport this Friday, before making the journey to Derry. It is understood details of funeral arrangements will be released shortly.

Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Belfast
A plane had to make an emergency landing at Belfast International Airport after it was diverted due to high winds and ran low on fuel. The Air France flight had 93 passengers on board was due to land in Dublin but got into difficulty on Thursday. The airport confirmed the flight had landed safely in Belfast at 3.43pm. No injuries were reported.

Airport Emergency Alert
Fire and ambulance crews were alerted yesterday afternoon after reports of a problem with a flight into Belfast. The passengers were given a scare when smoke was spotted coming from underneath the plane which had just arrived from Murcia in the South of Spain.
