L'Derry Man Sentenced For Weapons And Anarchist's Cookbook
A man from L'Derry has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a series of terrorism charges linked to dissident republicanism, including possession of the 'Anarchist's Cookbook' and numerous weapons.
Detectives from Serious Crime Branch today welcomed the sentence imposed on 41-year-old Kevin Barry Concannon.
The charges followed searches by police in June 2013 of a property in Beechwood Avenue in the city, rented by Mr Concannon.
Officers uncovered a number of items including a de-activated sub machine gun fitted with a real magazine, high explosives, blank rounds of ammunition, smoke grenades and a thunderflash and a set of number plates.
Police also seized a laptop which contained images of a suspected terrorist show of strength, images of Merseyside Police HQ and a copy of the Anarchist’s Cookbook.
Last June, Mr Concannon pleaded guilty to having the items and to collecting information likely to be of use to terrorism.
Detective Superintendent Kevin Geddes, from Serious Crime Branch, said: "Our investigation has negated the potential for harm which was posed by a number of these items. Police will continue to work to bring before the courts any individual who involves themselves in terrorist activity. The streets of Derry and elsewhere are undoubtedly safer today as a result of our investigation.”"

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Shots Fired At House In Belfast
A man and woman have escaped injury after shots were fired at a house in south Belfast. They were inside the property in Powerscourt Place when the attack was carried out at approximately 10.25pm on Wednesday 31 October. Two shots were fired and two windows were damaged.

Security stepped up at NI airports
Northern Ireland travellers are expected to face delays on all flights into and out of local airports as a result of the foiled terrorist attack at a UK airport, earlier today. All flights at the George Best Belfast City Airport have been delayed, and passengers are asked to check-in at least 90 minutes prior to departure.
