Jobs Fairs Announced

The Department of Employment and Learning has announced a series of four major Jobs Fairs and Advice Forums over the next two months.

The fairs will take place in the Millennium Forum, Derry/Londonderry, on Thursday 18 September (10am to 4pm), Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre in Ballymoney on Thursday 25 September (10am to 4pm) the Canal Court Hotel in Newry on Tuesday 30 September (10am to 5pm) and the Europa Hotel in Belfast on Tuesday 21 October 2014 (10am to 6pm).

Employment and Learning Minister Stephen Farry said: "These events bring employers, support organisations and jobseekers together under one roof. The Job Fairs have something for everyone and I would encourage anyone, whether in work, unemployed or simply considering their education and training options, to explore the services which will be available on each day."

Public Urged To Be Vigilant After Bogus NIE Worker Steals Cash
Police are urging the public to be vigilant after a bogus worker, claiming to be from Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE), stole a sum of cash from a house in east Belfast. On Wednesday, 08 November, a man claiming to be from NIE, called to a house to check the electric meter.

Man killed in Co Armagh shooting
A man has been murdered and another injured following a shooting incident in Co Armagh today. At around 10am, two men were found by police near the village of Cullaville. One man, who was suffering from gunshot wounds to the chest, was taken to Louth County Hospital in Dundalk. He died a short time later.

Progress Of NI's Vaccination Programme Welcomed
The Health Minister Robin Swann has welcomed the continued progress in NI's vaccination programme. The Jabbathon student jab initiative continues with walk-in clinics at university and FE college campuses. Vaccines are also to be provided at the Balmoral Show, with a walk-in clinic running every day.

First Dose Vaccines Still Available
First dose Covid-19 vaccinations are still available from mobile vaccination clinics, the Department of Health have reported. Vaccination is also available by appointment for the Moderna vaccine at around 50 participating community pharmacies with more pharmacies expected to be joining the programme.

Pigeon shows to be licensed following flu scare
Pigeon shows are to be allowed to take place in Northern Ireland under licence, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) has confirmed. The move follows a recent ban on bird fairs, markets, shows and other bird gatherings by DARD as part of Avian Influenza preventive measures legislation.
