Glenavy Paint Attack 'Hate Crime'
Police are treating a paint attack on a war memorial in Glenavy, County Antrim, as a hate crime.
Police said the monument in Main Street was targeted on Sunday evening. The paint damage was discovered at about 08:15 on Monday and follows a spate of recent graffiti attacks in the Lisburn area.
Sectarian graffiti was daubed on St Peter's Catholic Church on Rock Road, Stoneyford in Lisburn at some point between Friday night and Saturday morning.
Alliance Lisburn Councillor Brian Dornan said: "I would call for calm following the spate of vandalism in the area. There can be no justification for these types of sectarian ‘tit-for-tat’ attacks.
"I am deeply saddened by the attack on the Glenavy war memorial. People from all backgrounds fought in World War One. Commemoration of the Great War does not belong to just one group; everybody should remember those who lost their lives in this conflict.
"Those responsible for this vandalism must face justice in the courts, so I would urge anybody with any information about this attack to contact the Police."

A poppy wreath at the War Memorial on Garvagh's Main Street was destroyed overnight on Monday 22 July. Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Man Shot In Co L'Derry
A man has been shot in the ankle in Co L'Derry. The paramilitary-style attack happened near the Creggan shops at around 7.45pm on Thursday, 07 December. The 41-year-old man has been taken to hospital to be treated, however his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Police described the shooting as "brutal and horrific".

Spanish police have arrested a man in connection with the bombing of an army barracks in Lisburn eight years ago. Michael Gerard Rogan, 44, from Easton Avenue in north Belfast, was arrested in the holiday resort of Playa de las Americas in Tenerife on Monday.

Man left in critical condition following attack
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was left in a critical condition in hospital early this morning. The man was attacked in the Old Mountfield Road area of Omagh at around 3am. A number of people were believed to have been in the area at the time, however nothing else is known about the incident.
