Derry GAA Captain Collapses On Pitch
Former Derry Gaelic football captain Kevin McCloy has been taken to hospital after he collapsed on the pitch during a club match on Wednesday evening.
The 35-year-old is thought to have suffered a heart attack while captaining the Erin's Own, Lavey team during a Derry GAA championship match in Owenbeg.
The match was abandoned and paramedics arrived to treat Mr McCloy at the scene. He was taken to Altnagevin Hopsital.
A statement from Mr McCloy's family was released on Thursday morning. It said: "Kevin was taken ill on Wednesday evening, 13 August at Owenbeg GAA grounds. He received attention from the emergency services at the scene and was transferred to hospital where he is stable and currently undergoing assessment.
"Kevin's wife and family are very grateful to those who are caring for Kevin and to all who have offered good wishes and prayers for Kevin. At this time they request that their privacy be respected."
Last night the club's Twitter account tweeted: "Our captain Kevin McCloy has now been transferred to the hospital&is showing signs of improvement. Please keep him in your thoughts."

A man has been taken to hospital after he was shot in both legs in L'Derry. Police said they responded to a report that shots had been fired in the Creggan area at around 9.30pm on Wednesday, 12 September. A spokesperson said: "A man in his 20s, who sustained a number of gunshots to his legs, has been taken to hospital by NIAS for treatment.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a bookmakers in L'Derry. The 23-year-old was shot in the leg in the Central Drive area of Creggan on Monday, 27 March. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Sinn Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell condemned the attack.
