Lord Mayor Thanks Peace Vigil Attendees

Belfast Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon has thanked those who supported a peace vigil at City Hall yesterday evening.

Several hundred people are thought to have attended the vigil, which was to raise awareness and stand in solidarity with those experiencing violence around the world.

"I want to thank each and every person here for taking the time and making the effort to come out this evening to the grounds of Belfast City Hall, to stand in common humanity with our brothers and sisters in Gaza, in Israel, Iraq, Syria and Egypt - and further afield in Afghanistan, Pakistan, in Ukraine, Somalia, South Sudan, Nigeria, the Central African Republic and wherever wars are waged," she said.

"For them we say the time for war is over and the time for peace is now."
