NI Schools Receive £14m Investment
Schools across Northern Ireland are benefiting from nearly £14m in investment from April – June, as part of the Department of Education's minor works scheme.
The first quarter of the 2014/15 financial year has seen a total of 99 minor works projects agreed across all board areas.
Minor works are projects ranging from minor repair to more significant work projects and extensions.
The investment includes more than £250,000 for the refurbishment of the toilets and provision of an extension at Ballyclare Primary School; over £160,000 for the provision of wheelchair access toilets and other work at Our Lady's Grammar School in Newry; £145,000 to rewire New Lodge Nursery School and almost £75,000 for accommodation work to be carried out at Rosemount Primary School, L'Derry.
The news follows the announcement earlier in the year by Education Minister John O'Dowd of a potential investment of £134m under the School Enhancement Programme.
He said: "The programme will ensure the schools benefit from refurbishment or extension projects, each valued between £500,000 and £4 million. The investment will help improve existing facilities and enable structural changes in the successful schools."
