UVF linked to east Belfast shooting

Police are treating the shooting of a man in east Belfast last night as attempted murder.

Loyalist paramilitaries are being linked to the shooting of the 48-year-old man at around 10pm on Tuesday night.

The man was at his home in Campsie Park in Dundonald when three masked men broke in and shot him three times in the lower body.

His wife was with him at the time but escaped unharmed.

The men, who are believed to be members of the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF), then fled in a waiting car which was later found burnt out in the Brookland Gardens area of the loyalist Ballybeen estate.

The victim was taken to the Ulster Hospital where his condition is described as "stable".
