Derry interface projects secure £1.5m funding
Three interface areas in Londonderry are set to benefit from over £1.5 million peace funding.
Brandywell/Fountain, Irish Street/Gobnascale and Tullyally/Currnierin were allocated just over half of the £3 million allocation from the Peace II funding from the Local Strategy Partnership for the Derry City Council area on behalf of the Department for Social Development.
Commenting on the projects being funded, Oonagh McGillion, Strategy Manager with the Local Strategy Partnership, said: "These projects have been designed to achieve higher and more meaningful levels of community participation in the regeneration of community interface areas and neighbourhoods affected by the conflict in Northern Ireland.
"In total there are 25 projects approved which are contributing to local neighbourhood renewal and promoting the integration and inclusion of marginalized and disadvantaged groups.”
Each of the new projects aim to create new sporting and community facilities developed and refurbished for use by the local communities, a reduction in sectarian conflict, provision of new jobs in disadvantaged areas of the city and district, and enhance skills and qualifications of people from the interface areas.
There are a further eight eligible areas throughout Northern Ireland for such funding - and each area has up to £1 million to allocate to projects.
