NI Policing Board Calls For 12th Calm
The Northern Ireland Policing Board has called for all those taking part in 12 July events over the weekend to behave lawfully and peacefully.
The call follows a briefing to members of the Policing Board by Chief Constable ACC Kerr.
The following statement was agreed for issue after the meeting: "The Chief Constable has already made it clear to the Board that the PSNI are prepared for all eventualities in the coming period. He has underlined his commitment and that of his officers to upholding the law, working with communities to find solutions and to protecting human rights in all policing operations.
"As a Board we urge all those involved in parades and parades related protests to work with the police to ensure that these pass both lawfully and peacefully. We are only too aware of the costs of street confrontations for our community, for our police service and for our officers."
18-Yr-Old Shot In Ankles
A teenager has been shot in both ankles in west Belfast.
The 18-year-old man was taken to an alleyway at Rodney Parade off the Falls Road just before midnight on Thursday and shot.
He has received hospital treatment for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.
'Police Taser Saved My Life', Says Self-Harming Man
A man who had been self-harming and had a knife held to his chest has told the Police Ombudsman that he might have been killed if police had not used a Taser against him.
Police went to the man's home in Limavady in November 2012 and found that he had cuts to his wrist and appeared likely to cause further self harm.
The Taser was used against him to allow officers to remove the knife before taking him to hospital for treatment.
In a statement provided to Police Ombudsman investigators, the man said: "If they hadn’t fired the Taser I believe I would have seriously injured myself or perhaps killed myself."
Man Charged Over £75,000 Stolen Machinery
Police have charged a man with burglary after stopping a lorry carrying stolen heavy machinery worth £75,000.
Officers in Banbridge, County Down, stopped the vehicle carrying the Manitou telelift in the Tullymore Road area on Wednesday evening.
The lorry had been stolen from premises in the Boucher Place area of Belfast earlier in the day.
A 43-year-old man was arrested and charged with burglary and driving a motor vehicle without insurance.
He is due to appear at Belfast Magistrates' Court today.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Man Dies In Co L'Derry House Fire
A man aged in his 50s has died in a house fire in Magherafelt, Co L'Derry An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire at a house on Highfield Road, however police said that they don't believe the fire was suspicious. The man's identity has not yet been released.

Police Cancel Appeal For Missing Omagh Man
Police have said they believe missing Omagh man, Shane Sharkey, has been found in the Republic of Ireland. A police appeal for help in finding the 35-year-old has been cancelled, with police saying they now believe they know where he is. No further details have been released but police thanked the public for their help.

Man Arrested Over Murder Of George Gilmore
A 39-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the murder of George Gilmore. Mr Gilmore, aged 44, was shot in the neck in Carrickfergus on Monday, 13 March. He died from his injuries in hospital the following day, 14 March. The suspect was detained in Co Antrim on Wednesday, 12 April, and is being questioned at Musgrave police station.

A man has been arrested in connection with police inquiries into a murder in 1988. The body of Lily Smyth, 66, was found in her flat at Moveen House in Dunmurry on October 9, 1988. The pensioner had been strangled. A police spokesperson said that a 43-year-old man had been arrested and is being questioned at Antrim Police Station.
