Man Convicted Over £4,700 Benefits Fraud
A man has been convicted at Coleraine Magistrates' Court for claiming over £4,000 in benefits he was not entitled to.
31-year-old Michael Cruise of Oakvale Park, Coleraine, County Antrim, claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £4,702 while failing to declare employment.
He was given a three month prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay court costs of £37.
He is also required to repay the money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Unemployment figures in NI show slight rise
Northern Ireland's unemployment rate has risen slightly, according to the latest figures. The latest Labour Force Survey showed Northern Ireland's unemployment rate rose by 0.1 of a percentage point to 5.3% for the period April – June 2004.

Cancer sufferers in Northern Ireland are twice as likely to claim disability benefits than someone living in Scotland, but millions of pounds remain unclaimed. This is according to a report by leading cancer care charity Macmillan Cancer Relief, which revealed that more than £126.

Two people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to. Gerard Browne, 29, of Summerhill Drive, Belfast was given 12 months probation and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Incapacity Benefit totalling £377.

A woman was convicted at Craigavon Crown court yesterday for claiming benefits she was not entitled to. Ann Dougan, 32, of Willowfield, Tandragee, claimed Income Support totalling £1,028 while failing to declare employment and that she was living with her partner. She was given a three month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.
