Trading Standards issue travel agents warning
Northern Ireland's Trading Standards Service (TSS) has warned travel agents to ensure holidays advertised in their shop windows are accurate.
The warning comes after a Co Down travel agent was fined for falsely advertising a holiday no longer available as well as displaying incorrect prices on certain holidays.
Bryan Somers Travel Ltd from Downpatrick was fined a total of £750 following an appearance in the town's Magistrates Court.
Commenting on the warning, Richard Knipe from TSS said: “Businesses must ensure that holiday advertisements displayed in their shop windows are available to be booked and that the prices stated are correct.
"Unfortunately there are travel agents who advertise holidays that are either not available at all, or are only available at a higher price than the price indicated.
“In some instances, having enticed potential customers into their premises with what might appear to be a highly competitive offer, the agent then sells the same or another holiday at a higher price.
“As well as misleading consumers this type of false advertising is also detrimental to other travel agents who are trading fairly and complying with the law.”
Mr Knipe advised members of the public who have encountered such practices to contact TSS on 028 9025 3900.
