£155,000 Road Improvement Scheme For Ballygowan
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced a £155,000 road improvement scheme is to commence next week at Belfast Road, Ballygowan.
The project will start on Monday 30 June and is expected to be substantially completed by the end of July.
Minister Kennedy said: "This scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway on this important A Class road to Belfast from Ballygowan."
During the course of the improvements, temporary traffic signals and a road closure will be in place. Some delays should be expected.
Farry Announces 120 Training Opportunities
Employment and Learning Minister Stephen Farry has announced funding for 120 training opportunities in Software Development.
The Professional Software Development courses, which will commence in September 2014, aims to provide HND, degree or equivalent graduates in non IT disciplines with the skills and experience required to take up exciting new opportunities in the IT industry.
Minister Farry explained: "The ICT Skills Action Plan challenges Government to help match the skills of the workforce with the skills our employers need. The Professional Software Development Course is an excellent example of how we are doing exactly that.
"The ICT sector is the driving force of a globally competitive economy, underpinning innovation, competitiveness and long term prosperity. It is imperative that we support this sector locally to enhance the quality of our workforce, maximise employment opportunities and give our businesses a competitive edge in the global marketplace.
"This programme proves that Government, our further education colleges and local employers can respond quickly to deliver a programme to meet the skills needs of the sector."
The programme comprises of 17 weeks of classroom-based at NI's regional colleges and will deliver accreditation of an industry-recognised IT qualification, BTEC Level 5 Extended Diploma in Professional Software Development. For the duration of the course, participants will be paid a weekly training allowance of £150 based on attendance.
The closing date for applications is 4pm on Monday 14 July.
Two Men Injured Outside Takeaway
Two men have been left with minor head injuries after they were attacked outside a takeaway in L'derry at the weekend.
Police have said the men were attacked by a group of males close to a fast food takeaway on Spencer Road. The incident happened at around 2.30am on Sunday.
One of the men is thought to have lost consciousness for a period of time.
Any witnesses are asked to contact police.
Danske Bank To Close Branches
Danske Bank has confirmed it is to close two of its branches.
One will be on the Shankill Road in Belfast, and the other will be in Holywood, Co Down.
It is understood the branches will close before merging with the Danske bank in Donegall Square West in the city centre.
The merge will happen on 12 September.
Staff at the affected branches are to be relocated to other roles within the bank, according to Tony Wilcox from Danske Bank.

Bank robbery charges dropped
The County Down man accused of the £26 million Northern Bank robbery in 2004, has had the charges against him dropped. Dominic McEvoy, 23, a builder from Mullandra Park in Kilcoo, was not present in Belfast Magistrates Court during the hearing.

Police Appeal After Man Attacked In Co Antrim
Police are appealing for information after a man was attacked in Ballymena, Co Antrim. The assault happened in the North Road area at around 3.30am on Sunday, 29 January. A gang of four or five men attacked the victim, aged 37. He was taken to hospital where his condition has been described as "serious".
