Chinese Visa Changes To Boost NI Tourism
Changes to visa regulations that will make it easier for Chinese people to visit the UK and mainland Europe have been praised by Northern Ireland Tourism and Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster.
Chinese visitors will now be able to use the same website to apply for both a British and a Schengen visa, which allows travel to other EU countries at the same time.
"Today’s announcement is great news for Northern Ireland as it will benefit both business visitors and tourists," Minister Foster said. "We have a lot to offer the Chinese market and as China’s economy continues to grow we need to tap into the potential that it offers Northern Ireland.
"Over recent years we have been working hard to further develop relationships with China and build on existing trade, investment, tourism and university links to grow our economy. Many local businesses across a range of sectors are already actively selling products there and in 2013/2014 Northern exports to China valued £91.2m.
"Tourism Ireland is very active in markets such as China to raise the profile of Northern Ireland as a premier holiday and business tourism destination. We have so much to offer and it is vital that we seize the opportunities that exist."
