Police Investigate Claims Of Petrol Bombs Thrown In East Beast

An investigation has been launched following reports that a number of petrol bombs where thrown in east Belfast on Thursday night.

It is understood that the incident is alleged to have happened in the Strand Walk area at about 23:40 last night.

Police have appealed for any one with any information to contact them

Fire Destroys Former Corpus Christie College

Fire has destroyed the roof and a number of rooms at the former Corpus Christie College on Brittons Parade.

Six engines and around 30 firefighters were needed to tackle the fire at the former school.

Police are treating the fire as arson and an investigation is underway.

Belfast Giants GM Quits Club

Todd Kelman has quit as general manager of the Belfast Giants.

Mr Kelman has been with the club since 2000, and is understood to be leaving to join a consortium that is buying the Giants Elite League rivals, the Cardiff Devils.

Recently-appointed coach Steve Thornton is now expected to assume the duties undertaken by the general manager.

ASSEMBLY CREATE AWARD TO HONOUR FIRE SERVICE
THE Northern Ireland Fire Service is to receive the first ever award given by the province's devolved assembly. An illuminated scroll is to be presented to Chief Fire Officer John McClelland on Tuesday, by assembly speaker Lord Alderdice in tribute to the sacrifice made by fire fighters over the years.

One Direction Concerts To Go Ahead
One Direction's concerts at the SSE Arena are to go ahead. The band has rescheduled its concert that was cancelled on Tuesday night to Friday, 23 October. Aiken Promotions issued a statement which reads: "Once again we apologise for the cancellation of last night’s One Direction show.

Belfast Giants Captain Signs New Contract
Belfast Giants Captain Adam Keefe has signed a new contract that will see him return for the 2016/17 Elite League season. The Canadian joined the Giants in 2011 and has won two Elite League Championships with the team.

Northern Ireland has welcomed back the Harp Lager Belfast Giants as the team prepares to open their ice hockey Superleague account on Saturday. The Giants face the London Knights in what could be a face-off between two of the championship contenders for this year’s league title.

Community Fire Station Opens In Omagh
Public Safety Minister Edwin Poots has opened a new £4.4m Community Fire Station in Omagh, County Tyrone. The new Community Fire Station & District Headquarters on the Killybrack Road includes onsite facilities for firefighter training and transport and engineering workshops.
