Racism Shaped By The Troubles - Draft Paper States

Racism in Northern Ireland has been shaped by sectarianism and the Troubles, according to a draft paper of a strategy for racial equality.

The draft paper has been obtained by BBC NI politics programme, the View.

According to the BBC, the report states that the conflict in NI has created "patterns and attitudes that are now impacting on minority communities", that "unresolved tensions would continue" for as long as Westminster operated on a "one size fits all" approach to immigration.

The, 'A Sense of Belonging - Delivering Social Change through a Racial Equality Strategy for Northern Ireland 2014 – 2024' report was prepared by the OFMDFM.

According to the View, a DUP source has said that the party was happy for the report to go out for public consultation, and all that was needed was a ministerial foreward.
