250 Positions At UU Job Fair
Over 250 jobs were on offer at the annual Northern Ireland Graduate Recruitment Fair at the University of Ulster today, according to the Department for Employment and Learning.
Organised by the University of Ulster and Queen's University in partnership with NIJobfinder, over 1,000 recent graduates had an opportunity to meet recruiters from over 80 local and international companies including Citi, Kainos, Jaguar Landrover, PwC, Herbert Smith Freehills, Randox Laboratories and Dunbia.
Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry said: "The calibre and number of jobs on offer here today is an extremely positive sign and a resounding endorsement of how talented and sought after local graduates really are. Sectors actively recruiting here today cover a range of sectors from financial services and IT to law, construction and food production – key sectors which need new talent to support future growth.
"Today we see both local universities working in partnership to give local graduates all the support they need to showcase their talents to globally focused firms and position themselves strongly for a vibrant future career. Higher education is a key driver for the Northern Ireland economy and, through its work with local businesses, contributes significantly to the local economy."

Christmas Card Scenes As Snow Blankets NI
Picturesque winter scenes across NI are today being further enhanced by fresh falls of snow blowing in from an Atlantic weather system. However, it is adding to the continuing Siberian freeze that has seen much of the British Isles grinding to a halt, with disruption in NI expected to continue into the weekend at least.

BT Lose Appeal Over Autism Discrimination Case
Telecoms giant BT has lost an appeal against a finding it discriminated against a graduate from Queen's University Belfast with disabilities. Kevin Meier was rejected a place on the company's Graduate Recruitment Scheme after failing an online test. The 24-year-old lives with Asperger's syndrome, dyslexia and dyspraxia and has a high IQ of 139.

The first 100,000 Spend Local cards are being issued today, Monday 04 October 4, Economy Minister Gordon Lyons, has announced. "Today's marks the next significant step in the rollout of the High Street Scheme as the first 100,000 applicants are set to receive their Spend Local card," the Minister said.
