6,000 Education Places Created For Jobseekers
Six thousand places are to be created on the government's Springboard programme, allowing jobseekers to apply for free higher education places, including degree and post-graduate courses.
The Exchequer will fund the programme at a cost of €25 million to provide the free eduction places. To date some 16,000 people have used the programme, since it's launch in 2011.
Jobseekers can study with the programme to gain awards at certificate, degree and post-graduate level. Courses are usually part time and run for up to year.
Thirty eight colleges are involved this year offering 171 different courses.

An Tánaiste, Eamon Gilmore TD, together with the Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn TD, and the Minister of State for Training and Skills, Ciarán Cannon TD, announced an innovative Government initiative which will provide free education and training projects for up to 6,500 long-term jobseekers.
