Active Belfast To Support 30 More Physical Activity Programmes

Active Belfast has announced it will support 30 more physical activity programmes across Belfast, covering the areas of walking, cycling, capacity building and accessing places.

The announcement was made at the third annual Active Belfast workshop, hosted by the Belfast Strategic Partnership (BSP), which took place today.

The aim of the workshop was to bring together key stakeholders on Active Belfast to explore improved ways of working. At the event, attendees looked at the challenges facing organisations working in physical activity and to encourage working together better.

On her first engagement as Belfast's new Lord Mayor, Councillor Nichola Mallon, welcomed attendees to the workshop and told of her support for the Active Belfast initiative.

She said: "Active Belfast - under the Belfast Strategic Partnership - will work to continue to address the life inequalities that exist in this city, and one way we can do this is by leading a more active lifestyle. Walking and cycling are the easiest forms of activity to build into our daily lives and help get us all a little more active every day. These physical activity programmes are a significant opportunity to get more people, more active, more often - and I encourage Belfast citizens to get involved."
