Dublin newspaper folds after 90 issues
Workers at a Dublin evening paper have been told that the publication of the paper has ceased - just weeks after a re-launch.
The management team at the Dublin Evening - originally launched in March as the morning paper Dublin Daily - had been seeking 1.5 million euro funding, but investors failed to back proposals and the paper has been closed after just 90 issues.
In a statement, the board announced the end of publishing on Tuesday July 8 and that the company was in a state of voluntary liquidation.
A consortium of shareholders, including UK newspaper group Archant, the Connaught Tribune, and Paschal Taggart, invested a sum put at 4 million euro in the paper.
The management team was taken from online Irish news service www.online.ie
Launched in March this year as a morning paper, the paper was re-launched with a new masthead as the Dublin Evening with a target circulation of around 22,000 in June. However, the paper faced tough competition from rival Dublin publication the Evening Herald.

Amendments to building regulations emphasise energy efficiency
The forthcoming changes to Northern Ireland’s building regulations for 2005, which aim to enhance the conservation of fuel and power, have been outlined by NIO Minister Ian Pearson today. The government’s Energy White Paper (EWP), published in February 2003, set out goals and targets for reducing emissions of carbon dioxide by 60% by 2050.

Man Dies In Carrickfergus Road Collision
A man has died after his motorcycle was involved in a crash with a car in Carrickfergus, County Antrim. 49-year-old Mark McClements from the Whitehead area was killed in the collision, which occurred on the Larne Road on Monday evening, police have said. The road has now re-opened to traffic after diversions were in place for a time.
