George Best gives full support to fight against liver disease
George Best has taken part in the launch of a new campaign aimed at raising national awareness of liver disease.
The former footballer attended an event in the Palace of Westminster to address MPs and members of the press about his experiences as a liver transplant patient. His speech forms the first part of a campaign by a new all-party group – jointly chaired by Labour MP Helen Clark and Tory MP David Amess - which will tackle issues surrounding liver disease, which claims the lives of over 7,000 each year in the UK.
Mr Best looked tanned and healthy as he addressed the audience, revealing details of his operation in July 2002. He went on to give credit to everyone who worked behind the scenes, pledging his support to raise funds for further research and treatment of liver disease.
He added: "I think God every day that I'm here. This is one way to say thank you to everybody."
