'A' Level School Leavers Increase 5%
The number of pupils in Northern Ireland achieving two or more 'A' levels or equivalent increased by 4.9% during the five years to 2012/13, according to the Department of Education.
The proportion of school leavers achieving two or more 'A' levels or equivalent was 55.1%, up from from 50.2% in 2008/09.
The Department also said that the proportion of school leavers achieving at least five GCSEs at grades A*-C or equivalent has increased by 3.8% over the last five years from 58.4% in 2008/09 to 62.2% in 2012/13.
The number of school leavers achieving at least five GCSEs at grades A*-C or equivalent has increased by 8.3% over the last five years from 70.2% in 2008/09 to 78.5% in 2012/13.
But the proportion of school leavers continuing on to Institutions of Higher Education has falled by 0.3% point from 42.9% in 2008/09 to 42.6% in 2012/13. The proportion continuing on to Institutions of Further Education increased by 2.0% from 32.4% in 2008/09 to 34.4% in 2012/13.

Young Care Leavers Face Education Disadvantage
The proportion of young people leaving care with no qualifications is however over 15 times that for general school leavers, according to a new report. Although the number is in decline, 32% of people in care aged between 16 and 18 years of age left with no qualifications in 2012/13, compared to just 2% of general school leavers.

The number of hospital beds available in Northern Ireland has fallen by more than 18%, despite an increase in admissions and hospital occupancy rates. The figures have been released as part of the Department of Health's 2012/13 Inpatient and Outpatient Hospital Statistics for Northern Ireland report.

Majority Feel 'Safe' At Night-Time In Town Centres
The majority of participants in a survey on night-time crime in Northern Ireland have said they felt safe when socialising in their town centre in the evening. Findings from the 2011/12 and 2012/13 Northern Ireland Crime Surveys have been published by the Department of Justice and show that 32% felt very safe, while 56% felt fairly safe.

NI Higher Education Numbers Fall
The number of Northern Ireland students enrolled at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the UK fell by 2% between 2011/12 and 2012/13, according to figures released by the Deployment for Employment and Learning. This is despite the total number having increased by 2% over ten years.

NI Abortion Numbers Increase
The number of abortions carried out in Northern Ireland increased over the period 2012/13, according to the Department of Health. There were 51 terminations of pregnancy in Northern Ireland during 2012/13, indicating an increase of 16 on the 2011/12 year and a decrease of six on the 2006/07 year.
