Man Charged With Attempted Murder Following Crossbow Attack

A man has been charged with attempted murder following a crossbow attack in south Belfast on Wednesday evening.

A 29-year-old man was shot with a crossbow while he was in a parked car in the Belgravia Avenue area. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A woman was also in the car at the time of the attack but was not injured.

A 28-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.

He is due to appear in court on Friday.

Man Charged With Crossbow Attack
A 32-year-old man has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in relation to a crossbow attack at a Belfast nightclub. A bolt was fired from the weapon outside Rain, on Tomb Street, shortly after 11pm on Wednesday 11 January. No one was injured in the incident, but damage was caused to a window of the building.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Man Jailed For 2020 Crossbow Attack
The PSNI have welcomed the sentencing of a 49-year-old Belfast man for shooting a man with a crossbow in December 2020. James Gillen was sentenced at Newry Crown Court for wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, criminal damage and possession of an offensive weapon.

Man Arrested Over Crossbow Attack
Police are investigating after a 29-year-old man was shot with a crossbow as he sat in his car. The attack happened on Belgravia Avenue in the Lisburn Road area at about 17:20 on Wednesday. The victim was sitting in a car along with a 29-year-old woman, who escaped injury. The man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

USPCA calls on Assembly to consider crossbow regulation
The USPCA has called on the Assembly to take action on the issue of crossbows following what the animal welfare organisation described as an "appalling" attack on a horse. The Clydesdale horse was found with a metal bolt lodged in its jaw, having been grazing on the Creggan estate when it was attacked.
