Police Appeal Over Racist Attack In Newtownabbey
A Jamaican woman and her family have been targeted in an attack on a property in Newtownabbey, County Antrim that police believe is a race hate crime.
Kerry Ann Brown and her three sons were in their house in Linford Green in the Rathcoole estate when bricks were thrown at the property at about 02:00 on Friday morning.
Alliance Newtownabbey Councillor Billy Webb said: "I am disgusted by those responsible for this hate crime. This attack is completely unacceptable. I would like to offer my full support to the family
"We must take action to combat the recent spate of racist attacks. I am pleased that the Police have organised an operation as a result of these hate crimes, but it is important that it is successful in preventing future attacks.
"People who have moved to Northern Ireland are here to contribute to our economy and society. We must be open and welcoming to all."
Ulster Unionist Party Councillor John Scott added: "This was a cowardly attack on a woman and three children under 11 and I condemn it unreservedly. I understand the house has been attacked before, that racist graffiti was involved in that attack and that the police are treating this latest incident as a hate crime.
"This is a totally unacceptable situation which will disgust the vast majority of people in Rathcoole who simply wish to live in peace and harmony with all their neighbours, regardless of colour, creed or nationality."
