Over £18m Invested In Schools Estate
Over £18m has been invested in the schools estate in Northern Ireland during February and March, according to the Department of Education.
The investment includes over £1.5m funding for work to be carried out at John Paul II Primary School; over £1m for work at Little Flower Girls School; £750,000 for heating installation and roof repairs at Victoria College and almost £200,000 for a new fire alarm system at Oakwood Special School.
Speaking about the investment, Education Minister John O’Dowd said: "During February and March this year, a total of 119 minor works projects amounting to over £18million were agreed across all board areas. This investment will enable improvements to be carried out across the schools estate, positively impacting on pupils, teachers and school staff."
In March, the Minister also announced potential investment of £134m under the School Enhancement Programme. He said: "The programme will ensure the schools benefit from refurbishment or extension projects, each valued between £500,000 and £4million. The investment will help improve existing facilities and enable structural changes in the successful schools."

Earlier this year, the Minister provided funding to successfully resolve the long-running industrial dispute over teachers' pay for 2021-24.
