McCauseland Announces Funds For Parish Centre Refurbishment

Almost £300,000 has been allocated for the refurbishment of St Brigid's Parish Centre in Londonderry, the Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced.

The Resource Centre Derry, which owns St Brigid's Parish Centre, provides a range of services for all local residents of all ages not only in Carnhill but also in the Outer North Neighbourhood Renewal Area (NRA) and further afield.

As part of this project the organisation will renovate and upgrade the current facilities including the provision of a new roof, heating system and kitchen. This fit for purpose community space within the centre will be accessible for local residents living in the Carnhill/Outer North NRA.

It will be shared with other Community Groups to deliver a range of social, recreational, health, training, environmental and educational programmes, services and activities that meet the needs of residents.

Announcing the funding, Minister McCausland said: "This significant investment for the refurbishment of St Brigid's Parish Centre will only serve to enhance the long established services that are currently being delivered from the Resource Centre Derry, serving not only the people of Carnhill but also the wider community throughout the Outer North Neighbourhood Renewal Area.

"The additional funding will upgrade a vital community space giving a fresh look and feel that people who visit and avail of the services can enjoy building further on community friendships."

Concluding, the Minister said: "This investment of £293,440 is a clear example of the Executive working to deliver for our most disadvantaged local communities."
