270 New Jobs Announced At Ethicon Biosurgery

Fine Gael Limerick TD, Kieran O'Donnell, has welcomed the announcement that 270 new high-end jobs are to be created at Ethicon Biosurgery in the National Technological Park in Limerick as a result of an €80m investment by the company.

Ethicon Biosurgery is part of the Johnson and Johnson Group, which already has substantial operations in Plassey.

"This is a further endorsement of Limerick as a cutting-edge location for investment, and a great vote of confidence in the future of manufacturing here. Along with the 270 new life sciences manufacturing jobs being created, it is also very positive that the investment will lead to 150 temporary jobs during the building phase, providing the local construction sector with a boost.

"Limerick has a track record of providing quality products to markets around the world; Johnson and Johnson's investment here reflects that. These jobs bring together Limerick's industrial history and our manufacturing future. The company's decision to invest here is testament to the ability of our third level institutions to provide graduates of the highest standard.

"Recruitment is already underway, and the roles will be filled over the next five years. Early last year, Ethicon Biosurgery's sister company, Vistakon, announced a €100 million investment in its Plassey site.

"Johnson and Johnson's continued success here is an endorsement of Limerick and the local workforce. The new facility in Plassey is state-of-the-art and I believe it will generate employment well into the future."
