DSD To Spend Over £300,000 On Giro Route

Over £300,000 is to be spent on cleaning up the route to be used by the Giro d'Italia cycle race, coming to Northern Ireland for the first time between 09 – 11 May.

The Department of Social Development will spend a total of £330,000 to improve a number of derelict sites along the Shore Road in north Belfast, the Newtownards Road in the east and the Ormeau Road in the south.

The three stages that will start in Northern Ireland are:

Friday 9 May - Team time trial from Belfast city centre to Stormont and back

Saturday 10 May - Belfast to Causeway Coast and back

Sunday 11 May - Armagh to Dublin

Road Closed In North Belfast Following Collision
The Ligoniel Road in north Belfast has closed following a one-vehicle collision. The road has been closed in both directions near the Wolfhill Road, according to the police. Diversions have been put in place and motorists are being advised to avoid the area. No other details have been released.

Spend Local Cardholders Urged To 'Spend It Now, Spend It All'
Spend Local cardholders are being urged to "spend it now, spend it all and spend it local". Economy Minister Gordon Lyons made the call with one month to go before the High Street Scheme closes. Minister Lyons said: "To date over 1.3 million Spend Local cards have been dispatched, with over one million activated and in use.
